Start Strong with a 30-60-90 Day Plan

You landed the role. The email signature is official. But now what?
Starting a new job isn’t just about first impressions—it’s about building trust, adding value, and owning your transition with purpose. Whether you're a first-time manager, an industry switcher, or returning to the workforce, a strong 30-60-90 day plan is your blueprint for success.

The First 30 Days – Listen Loudly. Learn Relentlessly.

Your first month is all about strategic immersion. This isn’t the time to prove everything—it’s the time to observe everything.

  • Attend with intention: Join meetings. Watch team dynamics. Listen to stakeholder priorities.

  • Ask sharp questions: Don’t just ask “how”—ask “why.”

  • Capture insights: Keep a running log of what you’re learning, what’s working, and what’s missing.

  • Share perspectives: When asked, contribute thoughtfully. Your fresh lens is your power.

Goal: A working recap of what you've learned, key questions to explore, and a pulse check with your manager. Clarity now prevents confusion later.

Days 31–60 – Contribute, Create, Clarify

The fog is lifting. By this point, you're moving from orientation to value creation.

  • Start shaping your work: Review and revise existing processes or content.

  • Identify early wins: What can you improve, streamline, or deliver that shows you're dialed in?

  • Build relationships: Set 1:1s, connect cross-functionally, and get feedback loops going.

  • Plan ahead: Schedule your 90-day check-in and begin outlining your early contributions.

Goal: Show momentum. Draft tangible goals. Deliver early value. Think like a teammate, act like an owner.

Days 61–90 – Own Your Role. Set the Pace.

This is where you solidify your position. You’ve earned trust—now you sustain it.

  • Present a 90-day reflection: Outline achievements, learnings, and proposed next steps.

  • Align expectations: Ensure your role, responsibilities, and growth path are mutually understood.

  • Build a development plan: What skills, projects, or leadership opportunities can you own next?

  • Showcase impact: You’re no longer new. You’re the right fit, making the right moves.

🔸 Goal: Establish yourself as a strategic contributor—and build the foundation for long-term success.

Starting strong is about more than “fitting in.” It’s about finding your lane and owning it with clarity, curiosity, and courage.
